A UU Justice Workshop : “A Little Less Talk … A Lot More Action”
Deadline:  March 1, 2005

Here are seven (7) great reasons to attend the March 11th UU Justice Workshop:

1.Our Inspiring Keynote: Rev. David Carl Olson, who will speak on “Ministers Building Justice Ministries”, was President of the largest faith-based organization in New England that worked for access to affordable housing, more resources for public education, and dignity in the workplace for immigrant janitors and certified nursing assistants.

2.UUA Individual Consultation: Elizabeth Bukey, a Legislative Assistant for Civil Rights and Religious Liberty with the UUA Washington Office for Advocacy, will not only give a workshop on “Creating A Justice Seeking Congregation”, but will be available for a special session to discuss how these concepts can be implemented in your church.

3.Performances by UU Musician, Jim Scott:   Three of Jim's songs are included in the new Unitarian Universalist Hymnbook; "Gather The Spirit," has become a favorite across the denomination. Jim has served on the board of the UU Musicians Network and was Co-Chair of the ecological/spiritual activist group the UU "Seventh Principle Project."

4.Michigan UU “Best Practices”:  Three local UU churches will tell about how they did some great justice projects.  Bring home their good ideas!

5.Justice Campaign Updates: Learn from campaign organizers how to get people in your community involved with Michigan justice campaigns working to: raise the minimum wage; build support for universal health care; challenge the anti-affirmative action “Civil Rights Initiative”; and save money while saving the environment by joining Michigan Power and Light.  Also, a workshop is being offered on how to organize a petition drive.

6.Information Tables:  Network and learn from exhibitors, including the Center for Civil Justice, the Detroit Metropolitan Interfaith Committee for Worker Issues; League of Revolutionaries For a New America; the National Wildlife Federation; and others.  Request a FREE table to display your church or community group’s activities by calling Gwen TODAY at 313-574-8463.

7.Food, Overnight Lodging, Child Care & Buttons:  Attendees will get a continental breakfast and lunch, have the opportunity to get free child care or stay overnight on either Friday or Saturday night courtesy of UU Church of Greater Lansing volunteers – if you request these services by sending in a registration form. You can also get special UU justice buttons.  Justice seeking youth are welcomed!

Registration is only $35 for adults; $15 for persons on fixed incomes, students or unemployed.  Scholarships available. For more information, call Gwen Winston at 248-574-8463 or Randy Block at 248-549-5170.
